course structure and content
We aim to balance the harsh facts of climate change with a 'human story' and solution-based learning. It can take significant emotional skills for participants to balance any associated grief, anxiety and guilt with the motivation to take action. We encourage participants to develop their emotional intelligence (EQ) when learning to effectively engage in climate change. Studies suggest it’s not enough to simply rely on scientific information when it comes to transformational action. According to the Committee on Climate Change, it requires new ambitious narratives that inspire public engagement and behavior change. We believe the music industry is in a unique position to use its creativity to promote such narratives on a global scale.

A variety of learning styles are used throughout the course. Including visual, auditory, reading and writing. Emphasis is placed on group enquiry to encourage learners to find their own answers and solutions. This helps to maximise engagement and participation.

Our carbon literacy course is structured with narrative in mind. It describes the problem, lays out the consequences and then talks about solutions. The final element is crucial because without an option to respond to the impacts of climate change, audiences can feel overwhelmed.

Upon completion of the course, participants are given the opportunity to gain a certificate in Carbon Literacy. In order to meet the criteria, they must provide evidence of their learning and commit to one individual and one group carbon reducing action. Certified by the Carbon Literacy Project.
